 For me, this is more of an off and on issue. It'll be working fine for
 weeks then start doing this.  goodespeler, would you mind giving Pidgin
 2.5.8 portable a shot:
 http://downloads.sourceforge.net/portableapps/PidginPortable_2.5.8.paf.exe?download_redirect_do_not_right_click

 It's completely self contained so you don't have to uninstall anything.
