New description:

 If I copy a link from Firefox (3.5.7) that contains russian letters - for
 example, http://ru.wikipedia.org/wiki/Телепортация - and then try to paste
 it into the message window, it doesn't get pasted - nothing happens at
 all.
 However, if I copy only "ru.wikipedia.org/wiki/Телепортация" - it gets
 pasted alright: seems that the problem is with auto-formatting an URL.
 I use Pidgin 2.6.5 on Windows XP Pro SP3.
