 I was getting this OSCAR error (Received unexpected response from
 http://api.oscar.aol.com/aim/startOSCARSession) and it was kind of
 frustrating for few days. Then I was looking at the web to find out some
 solution. I have downloaded the new version of PIDGIN and installed but it
 did not help. Closed the PIDGIN and re-opened but it did not work. I have
 deleted my AIM account and recreated it ....all kinds of trails but
 nothing worked.
 Finally what I have done is that:
 On Pidgin go to Accounts --> Manage Accounts
 Select the AIM account and click on Modify.
 Select the Advanced Tab and unselect all the check boxes (Use SSL, Use
 Client Login, Alwasy use..., Allow Multip.....).
 That's it it worked.
