 back to an old version of a buddylist with that account no longer active,
 and I still receive the issue.

 I get the same error with Pidgin 2.7.0 (libpurple 2.7.0).
 Unknown error (204): <ml><d n="yahoo.no"><c n="vidar<part of username
 undisclosed>" l="3" t="32" /></d></ml>.
