 (hopefully talking about the same thing as deryni):

 Switching to a different status when becoming idle/away is only enabled if
 your current status is 'available', i.e. when you are not in an 'away' or
 'invisible' status you have selected explicitly.

 Anyway, you can trick Pidgin to switch to your idleaway status by creating
 a new status that has 'available' as global type, but 'invisible' as
 exception for the icq account in question.

 For your idleaway status, create a second new status of type 'invisible'
 and enter your message there.
