 I have been a pidgin user since the start (before it was called pidgin)
 and I have never been able to get the startup status to work.  I've tried
 the various fixes in previous bug reports to no avail.  This bug is quite
 frustrating because of the numerous times I start pidgin only to find out
 hours later that the reason I haven't been getting messages is because my
 status was Away.  In existing bug reports I see responses like "works for
 me" which doesn't help.  I use on Windows 7 system but had the bug through
 all versions of windows from and including XP.
