 Note the use of extended ascii 'quotes'  in the following example

   Donna said: “check out this link http://t.co/ni9jnDZL”

 pidgin tries to create a hyperlink for the text starting at http...  but
 doesn't stop when it reaches the "right-quote" marker &#148

 This has been around for many years and not been fixed.
