 A friend connected to the Hotmail website chat with an "appear offline"
 status. My messages were delivered normally, but only until that friend
 replied back. It seems that if the other user sends a message, when you
 type back you get: "Message may have not been sent because an unknown
 error occurred".

 When the user appears online, messages are delivered without any problems.
