 Are you saying that this happens intermittently?

 It's hard to guess why this happens without debugging tools on your
 system, but the most likely cause is some sort of security software.

 You can use [http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896653.aspx
 Process Explorer] to dump the stack for the threads in the hung process to
 get some more information, but it may not be particularly useful.
