 Intermittently (but regularly enough) a user will be typing a message and
 suddenly the message stops updating (i.e. they keep typing but the text
 does not display). After about 5 seconds, all of the characters typed will
 appear and the client will behave normally. This corresponds to a spike in
 CPU and RAM usage on the machine. The same spike and client delay can be
 seen when trying to open any menu (e.g. preferences, privacy, plugins).
 This has been verified by many users over several weeks. Disabling all
 plugins does not seem to change the frequency of occurrence.

 While this issue seems to describe a similar case, the purposed fix does
 not work: https://developer.pidgin.im/ticket/16963

 This issue also notes a similar problem and potential cause; however, even
 after drastically scaling all user avatars to 96x96, the issue is still
 present: https://developer.pidgin.im/ticket/4491

 The only thing that seems to actually resolve it is to not show buddy
 details in the buddy list (Buddies -> Show -> (unchecked) Buddy Details).
