Comment:

 This is probably related to the "hiding" of new conversations.

 Thanks for the patch. FYI, g_return_* shouldn't be used for things that
 are expected to happen - only to trap exception cases that shouldn't occur
 (we do misuse it in a number of places that need to be cleaned up).
