 deryni: I don't see how your solution eliminates re-layouts of the
 response pane during a conversation.  If it can expand, it can cause a re-
 layout, correct?

 I'm not sure if the original intent of this change is optimizing the right
 problem.  Is it more important to maximize the response pane or have the
 UI not contributing to visual noise during the conversation?  I've not
 felt restricted by the size of the response pane, so the only thing to
 optimize in my case is to keep the UI from changing sizes.  This is how
 2.3 worked.
