 A percentage value may work, as it is specific enough to avoid all too
 much whitespace or all too much 'cramped' space. I admit I hadn't thought
 of that idea.

 (As an example, I am an artist/designer and often find myself working on a
 canvas that needs to be resized repeatedly, due to its very nature. If
 don't want to have to interrupt my workflow to alt-tab, I have to resize
 the IM window accordingly, and can end up with an all too tiny input
 area.)
