Hi
I don't have a googlemail account or gmail one, as far as I can tell. I
have a Google ID, jez636363, which is what I use to sign on to the gtalk
client itself. When I try to log on to google, with an 'email' of either
jez636363 or jez636363 at gmail.com or jez636363 at googlemail.com, all log me
on to my google account (which is for jez at jez.cc).
I also tried logging on as jez636363 at dfghdf.com which fails.
In 2.3.1 I can change the Domain to both gmail.com and googlemail.com and
both work, but if I change to dfghdf.com it doesn't.
It appears that making 2.3.1 work is the same as logging on to Google.
But logging on to the real gtalk just needs jez636363, with no domain (or
at least the gtalk client auto tries all possibilities?)
I re-insatlled 2.4.0 and tried gmail.com, googlemail.com and dfghdf.com
and googlemail.com works, but not the others - so I am up and running,
thank you, albeit confused about what changed between 2.3.1 and 2.4.0.
The only reason I had gmail.com as the domain (instead of googlemail.com)
was that it is the default and the instructions I found said to do, so I
guess lots of people will have found the same problem when upgrading to
2.4.0.
One other difference I can see with 2.4.0 now is that even though I have
two contacts set to show when offline, when I start 2.4.0 they are hidden
until I disable and re-enable the xmpp account - in fact when it launches,
they show, then they disappear almost immediately - MSN ones work
correctly and show when offline.
Cheers
Jez
