Comment:

 I'm not exactly sure what you mean by "When I set my status to away, my
 AIM status message disappears entirely," but it sounds like the normal,
 expected behavior.  Also, there is a 60 character limit on the length of
 available messages, which is why it truncates it and adds the ellipsis.
