 Pidgin 2.4.0 on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 kernel 2.6.18
 I have a similar problem.
 So...

 If i want to change the status message...sometimes....it does not work.
 Nothing is happening.
 As far as i can tell this happens when you are trying to switch to
 Available using at the same time a status message that is a link. Also, if
 you have such a status message saved and want to switch to it it does not
 work.
 I think it also happened in other case but i do not remember the sequence
 of steps to recreate the problem in those other cases.
