 This is crashing inside glib in a place where there is very little pidgin
 could be doing to mess up that function call.  There is probably some sort
 of memory corruption going on.  Try following
 [wiki:GetABacktrace#AdditionalNotesforThoseUsersWantingToDoMore the
 instructions for enabling memory allocation checking] to see if that
 reveals an earlier problem.  You might need to configure glib's slab
 allocator using the `G_SLICE` env. var.
