 Ok, I've "export MALLOC_CHECK_=2" and "export G_SLICE=always-malloc", just
 waiting for it to crash now.

 Any idea on the other craziness that I'm seeing.  The fact that when I'm
 at work, it crashes consistently all day, however when I go home and then
 VPN back into work, Pidgin will stay up all night!  It is by far one of
 the strangest things I've seen.  It's like it doesn't like my work LAN,
 but will work perfectly fine on my home LAN.  Very weird.
