 I was having the problem for a long time, it stopped when I turned off the
 notify.dll plugin.   I've reinstalled GTK a few times trying to fix it.  I
 haven't tried turning on notify.dll to cause it.  What I'm doing that may
 be not extremely common is being in 50 irc channels divided accross 8
 windows.
