Comment:

 If you look at the processes in task manager and there is no "pidgin.exe"
 or "pidgin-portable.exe" process then pidgin isn't running (and your
 mystery sounds are coming from somewhere else).  Given that you've
 uninstalled Pidgin, it is very unlikely that there is still a process
 running.
