Comment:

 I'm using the latest libxml2 available for FreeBSD (2.7.2_1) compiled from
 the port http://www.freshports.org/textproc/libxml2/

 I'd rather not downgrade the library because it's used by most GNOME
 programs, but indeed before the update to GNOME 2.24 XMPP was fine, so the
 problem is likely to be in that library.

 Is Pidgin supposed to work correctly with the latest version?
 Anyway I'll try and check if the FreeBSD patches to the library are
 incorrect.
