Comment:

 Do you run with the pidgin buddy list window docked to the side of your
 screen? Is the area that icons cannot use the area normally covered by the
 pidgin buddy list window? When you come out of sleep mode where is your
 buddy list window? Does displaying and closing it "fix" things?
